Twitter says its Friday problems are fixed

Twitter had some issues Friday; it wasn’t working on desktop for some people, and the problems seemed more prevalent on the West Coast. But about an hour after I first noticed problems, Twitter said things were fixed.

“We’ve fixed a technical bug that was preventing timelines from loading and Tweets from posting,” the company said via its support account. “Things should be back to normal now. Sorry for the interruption!”

On its status page, Twitter said in a 12:56PM ET update that “we’re experiencing an elevated level of API errors starting around 17:41 UTC and are currently investigating. The presence and scope of any customer impact has not been determined at this time, but we will provide an update as soon as we know more.” However, given Twitter’s support account update, it seems likely this issue has been resolved.

Looking at Downdetector’s outage map, it appears the issues primarily affected West Coast users. That includes me — I’m based in Portland, OR. (Perhaps that red dot over Portland in the first screenshot below is the Downdetector report I made.)

Three California-based Verge staffers also said they were seeing problems, though many East Coast-based staffers seemed to have no issues. TweetDeck has also continued to work for me without problems.

Update February 11th, 1:30PM ET: Twitter says the problems are fixed.
